I'm going to keep spoilers as vague as possible, but since the film is based on fact, it's not like there is any real surprises...except a few liberties regarding timelines, but otherwise, the film is quite faithful to fact...


Hm...well, first things first, Johnny was amazing...but then, did you really expect any different :)

My main problem with the movie had nothing to do with the story or the acting...but more of Michael Mann's style...  Now, I've never seen a Michael Mann film before today so I don't know if it's just his usual style, but he really needed to back off a little on the handicam work, especially when the scene is just still.  I found the camera movements distracting.  It felt a little like we were watching Cops instead of a film. 

Another thing that kinda bugged me was the look.  It was filmed completely in HD video (from my understanding)...which looks dramatically different from film.  I never really noticed that there was that much of a difference until now...It took me a while to get used to it.  I guess, from my perspective, if shooting a period piece, I would have chosen film instead, but Mann has a love affair with HD so....

I'm thinking that he wanted to make the movie look and feel more real...but, for me, I would have gone with film and used steadicams.  But that's just me :)

As for the acting, of course I thought Johnny was very good.  He went for more subtle (think Finding Neverland) than in-your-face...which I felt worked because he's playing a real guy.  Some might feel that he should have gone larger than life, but I think it would have detracted.  He doesn't need that.  Johnny's charisma is more than enough.  :) 

Christian Bale...felt a little wooden to me...I don't know....I'm not a fan of his really, and I haven't seen much of his work, but I've never really been drawn to him...and the only reason I can think of is that I'm just not a fan of his style.  But, it's not like his performance detracts from the movie.  He is adequate as Melvin Purvis, but I wasn't drawn in all that much. 


Overall, I do recommend the movie to others, if for no other reason to catch Johnny :)   I only wish they released this closer to Oscar season...It doesn't feel like a summer movie; it's got Oscar Fodder written all over it....and we all know that the Academy voters tend to forget things that happen in the summer...

I will probably regret this, but I just feel the need to write something and figured this might be a good way to jumpstart my muse. :)

FINALLY! I have finished the digital painting I’d been working on for weeks… It took me forever to do the hair…and I’m not entirely satisfied with his eyebrows, but *shrug* :)

Wow....seriously.

The first publicity photos (and 3 concept arts) of Tim Burton's upcoming Disney production, Alice in Wonderland, were released today and....talk about GORGEOUS!

Whether or not you Burton is your style (me, personally, I love him), there is no denying the artistic beauty that goes into each and everyone of his films; there's a reason why his films nominated for Art Direction Oscar has yet to lose. He truly is one of the few remaining directors who puts the art in his work rather than the mainstream.

For this film, Burton is using a mix of live action and 3D animation....

So....I've been thinking....

Should I do like a webshow type thing?  Voice only...at least right now, because I just can't quite bring myself to show my face on the 'net, asides from the one picture of me floating out there :)

I think I'd just ramble about TV shows/movies/games/etc... what I think about what's going on, my reactions to things...ect.  Or sometimes just as a way to rant about things (most notably, House would be a part of this one :))

....Hmm......

So...should I?


I was thinking about this because I have a lot to say about certain things....and certain shows, that would just take too long to type out :)   And I'm being lazy.  Plus this could be a way for me to practice explaining my thoughts vocally instead of just by writing :)

So...I'm working slow.  :)  I've started refining some areas...even though I'm not done with major areas, but *shrug*  My order is chaotic.  :)

Anyway, this might be my last update until I am completely done with it...though that might depend on how long it takes :)

I made this wallpaper from Zachary Quinto's GQ Germany photoshoot.  This is my favorite shot from that set because it's just...well, gorgeous :).  And as I've recently developed a bit of a, well, crush on him, I decided it was fitting to use it.  I love everything about the photo, the tux (*melts*), the motorcycle...*that* look.  Add them all together and....I'm gone. :)

About an hour and a half after my previous post....It now looks like this:

When I am done, I will post close up details and a animated .gif of the steps....minus the first few because I forgot to capture them :)

Wow....for the first time in over 2 years...I've started painting a digital portrait.  I haven't done any kind of art in so long as my muse has completely run off and this one isn't original (i.e. I'm using a resource :)) but given that I haven't done anything in sooo long....

I'm using Photoshop...normally I use Painter when I paint, but I decided to try Photoshop this time around :) 

And I'm gonna be posting a step by step progression as I go along, partly to see how it's turning out and to keep reminding myself to actually finish it :)

Anyway....here is the first step....I've already started painting in it, forming some of the facial features, etc....

I got bored...changed my LJ layout...and decided that I needed a mood icon set that matched :)  And I decided to post them for those who might want to take them...

It's a mixed set; a combination of Quinto photoshoots, press conferences and interviews, a few behind the scenes shots and images of him as Sylar on Heroes...

Just found this article...thought it was an interesting read.... and I definitely have to agree with it.

If you haven't seen it...it does spoil a bit of the story.

I’ve been a fan of Star Trek since I was born, practically. That’s what happens when your mom and your older brother are huge sci-fi geeks. I’ll admit first off though, I’m not overly familiar with the Original Series. I mean, I know the characters and the big important stuff, but typically only how it relates to the Treks after the original. So, I didn’t go into the movie with canon from the Original Series in my head, though I did catch onto some…um, major changes, but I’ll get to that later….with spoiler warnings….

To all my friends who are a part of the house_cameron community....

Please be aware that a particular Huddy fan has decided to come into our community and insult and bash a member because she expressed her disappointment in the show.  This Huddy fan copied and pasted some of this person's post and pasted it in her own journal for the sole purpose of bashing her. 

I stepped in and told her to back off because it is not the Huddies' job to police our community....

I will most likely post a mod post telling people that, now, more than ever, f-locking all entries may be the safest route to go since the Huddies are probably going to keep a close eye on us to make sure we don't stray too far *eyeroll*

Oh, I am so sad....

Andy Hallet, better known to Joss Whedon's Angel fans as Lorne has passed away.  He died last night in the hospital with his father at his side.  He had been battling heart disease for the last five years, ever since learning of his condition during the final season of Angel.
