My sister and I went to the Emilie Autumn concert earlier tonight (techinically, yesterday...) It was a pretty awesome show.

Very theatrical performances, gorgeous set and awesome costumes with a Gothic/Baroque/Victorian flair.

Watching Emilie rock out on the violin was pretty awesome. And yes, 'rock out' is a pretty fitting term, though not one someone would think of when violins are involved. But, trust me, she was rocking it :) It was really awesome to hear that kind of talent on the violin in person :D

Under the cut are a bunch of pictures taken by either me or my sister. And they're not perfect. There was a big, tall, bald guy in front of me.... ¬_¬ he kept getting in the way. Oh well :)

I was actually looking forward to the new season...it looked like they were going to finally integrate the whole cast back into the show...even the promo pictures for some of the episodes were like blasts from the past - you know, back when it was good. 

And now...it's come to an end. 

I can't believe this. 

I am so angry I can't think straight. If this was her decision, I would be able to accept it, but given that it seems to be a 'creative decision' makes it that much worse...


I quit House.  The unwatched season 6 premiere has already been deleted.

And as it stands now, I’ve only got the prologue completed and working on the next chapter. I wanted to know what people thought about it before invested my blood any further :)

If you want to write a story about Vulcans, using the Vulcan language as best as you can...this is the place.  It's an awesome resource....You can learn a lot about the Vulcan culture just by looking at their words.  For example...for a race that prides itself on logic over emotion, they have a LOT of words for the different emotions.... including one for 'love at first sight'  ^_^  It's shan'hal'lak  (or shon'ha'lock)  

By the way...the word on my icon; Visak'a, means Legacy.  :)

There is a slight chance that you might actually already be familiar with some of her work.... She is my favorite digital artist...though it has been a while since she's updated her site, you should still check it out.  She has some gorgeous work.

Day 1: A Song

Lost Without You performed by Darren Hayes

Before getting to the song, first, the story behind this performance needs to be said.  The song is originally recorded by the highest selling female artist in Australian Recording Music history (if I'm remembering that correctly) Delta Goodrem (btw, check out her music as well ;)) 

In 2003, shortly after releasing her debut album, Delta received the news that she had cancer (she is currently in remission as far as I know). 

Enter Darren Hayes (of Savage Garden fame)

...As Delta was too ill to perform at the ARIA awards (the Australian Recording Industry Awards - think the Grammys), the show's producers planned to do a tribute to her and enlisted Darren to perform the song.  No one knew he was going to be there (Delta was a fan of his)....and performed such a gorgeous version of her song.

It still gives me goosebumps. 

And his performance is still heralded as one of the most moving and memorable moments in ARIA history....

Delta can be seen at the end of the video, completely moved to tears. 

Yay :)

Okay…So, I’ve been reading a lot of Star Trek XI fanfiction lately…and I mean, a lot of fanfiction… Granted, most…okay, all of it centers around my new favorite ship, Spock/Uhura. I know I’ve got some newly minted Spock/Uhura fans on my flist :D So, I decided to post this…also partly to help me keep track of what I’ve read and what I am currently reading :)

So, I decided to make this list. I’ve taken the summaries the authors wrote themselves and I will probably eventually add my own commentary to the list, but for now, it’s just the summaries :)

Author’s Notes: This is the first Star Trek fic I have ever written. I’m not new to Trek. In fact, I’ve been watching it my entire life but I’ve never felt compelled to write fanfic until the new movie. I blame JJ Abrams and the awesomeness that was Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana as Spock and Uhura. :)

I'm going to keep spoilers as vague as possible, but since the film is based on fact, it's not like there is any real surprises...except a few liberties regarding timelines, but otherwise, the film is quite faithful to fact...


Hm...well, first things first, Johnny was amazing...but then, did you really expect any different :)

My main problem with the movie had nothing to do with the story or the acting...but more of Michael Mann's style...  Now, I've never seen a Michael Mann film before today so I don't know if it's just his usual style, but he really needed to back off a little on the handicam work, especially when the scene is just still.  I found the camera movements distracting.  It felt a little like we were watching Cops instead of a film. 

Another thing that kinda bugged me was the look.  It was filmed completely in HD video (from my understanding)...which looks dramatically different from film.  I never really noticed that there was that much of a difference until now...It took me a while to get used to it.  I guess, from my perspective, if shooting a period piece, I would have chosen film instead, but Mann has a love affair with HD so....

I'm thinking that he wanted to make the movie look and feel more real...but, for me, I would have gone with film and used steadicams.  But that's just me :)

As for the acting, of course I thought Johnny was very good.  He went for more subtle (think Finding Neverland) than in-your-face...which I felt worked because he's playing a real guy.  Some might feel that he should have gone larger than life, but I think it would have detracted.  He doesn't need that.  Johnny's charisma is more than enough.  :) 

Christian Bale...felt a little wooden to me...I don't know....I'm not a fan of his really, and I haven't seen much of his work, but I've never really been drawn to him...and the only reason I can think of is that I'm just not a fan of his style.  But, it's not like his performance detracts from the movie.  He is adequate as Melvin Purvis, but I wasn't drawn in all that much. 


Overall, I do recommend the movie to others, if for no other reason to catch Johnny :)   I only wish they released this closer to Oscar season...It doesn't feel like a summer movie; it's got Oscar Fodder written all over it....and we all know that the Academy voters tend to forget things that happen in the summer...

I will probably regret this, but I just feel the need to write something and figured this might be a good way to jumpstart my muse. :)
